Niagara Falls Itinerary: Day 1
Day 1 focuses on the main Fallsview tourist area, where you’ll explore the waterfalls from multiple angles and enjoy the spectacular views from the Canadian side.
Stop 1: Table Rock Welcome Centre
⏰ Time: about 30 minutes $ Free ✓ Open All Year

I always like to start my trip at the Table Rock Welcome Centre, the main hub for visitors on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.
It’s super convenient—you can grab a map, book your timed entry tickets, and plan your day all in one spot. The Welcome Centre is right next to the main WEGO Bus Terminal, so you can also become familiar with this hop-on, hop-off tourist bus system.
When we visit, we usually park here or outside the Floral Showhouse. It’s an ideal location as it’s central and easy to access all the main attractions.
Stop 2: Visit the Canadian Horseshoe Falls
⏰ Time: about 30 minutes $ Free ✓ Open All Year

Stepping outside the Table Rock Welcome Centre, you’ll immediately find yourself at the breathtaking Horseshoe Falls. Also called the Canadian Falls, this is the highlight of any Niagara trip – and trust me, the view never gets old.
Standing at 54 meters (177 feet) tall, the falls’ crescent shape creates a mesmerizing cascade that plunges into the Niagara River below.
The power and beauty of the Horseshoe Falls will leave you in absolute awe. My family often has to drag me away as I can spend hours just watching the falls from here.
Stop 3: Walk Along the the Niagara River Parkway
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Free ✓ Open All Year

After taking in the Canadian Falls, I love strolling along the trail in front of the Niagara Parkway. This scenic walk offers stunning views of all three falls, including the American Falls, the smaller Bridal Veil Falls, and the rushing Niagara River below.
You’ll also spot the Hornblower and Maid of the Mist boat cruises making their way to the base of the Horseshoe Falls – it’s such a cool sight!
The trail is about 2 km and takes around 30 minutes to walk (without stopping). Along the way, you’ll find plenty of spots for breathtaking photos and get an appreciation for the magnificence of Niagara Falls.
LUNCH: Queen Victoria Place Restaurant

When it’s time for lunch, I always recommend the Queen Victoria Place Restaurant located on the Niagara River Parkway. The restaurant overlooks Niagara Falls, offering stunning views in a calm, relaxing atmosphere.
You can choose to dine indoors or enjoy your meal on the spacious covered terrace with a direct view of both the American and Horseshoe Falls.
The food is great, but it’s the view that truly makes this spot worth the visit. Sitting here, watching the Falls while you eat, is such a memorable experience—it’s the perfect midday break.
Stop 4: Take a Niagara City Cruise (Ride the Hornblower)
⏰ Time: about an 1 hour $ Buy Tickets Now ✓ Open Seasonally: May – November

Next, hop aboard the Niagara City Cruise – this 20-minute Voyage to the Falls tour is an absolute must! I remember the first time I went on the Hornblower – it was such an incredible experience.
Not only does this boat ride offers incredible views of the Niagara Gorge, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and, of course, the iconic Canadian Horseshoe Falls, but you get so close that you won’t believe how loud it is!
Now if you’re wondering if you should go on the Maid of the Mist (American side) or the Hornblower (Canadian side), the only real difference is in ticket purchases. While you can pre-book your Hornblower tickets, you can only purchase Maid of the Mist on site.
Head to the front of the boat for the best experience but be prepared to get wet (free rain ponchos are provided)! The close-up view of the Horseshoe Falls are completely worth it. It’s one of those experiences you’ll remember forever.
Stop 5: Go on the White Water Walk
⏰ Time: about an 1 hour $ Tickets Required ✓ Open Seasonally: April – Mid-November

To experience the raw power of the Niagara River, head to the White Water Walk, located just 4 km north of the Falls. It’s easy to get there using the WEGO bus.
This attraction gives you an incredible up-close view of the Class 6 whitewater rapids – some of the wildest in the world! Start by taking an elevator 70 meters down, then walk through a 73-meter-long tunnel to reach the boardwalk.
The boardwalk itself is about 305 meters (1,000 feet) long, with stairs leading to two observation areas right at the river’s edge. I love walking along the boardwalk – it’s such a cool way to experience the rapids and grab some great photos. It’s a pretty unforgettable experience.
Stop 6: Ride the Whirlpool Aero Car
⏰ Time: about 30 minutes $ Tickets Required ✓ Open Seasonally: April – Mid-November

The Whirlpool Aero Car was such a highlight for me – in fact, I loved it so much that I rode it twice in a row! This historic cable car has been operating since 1916, and it’s a fantastic way to see the Niagara Whirlpool from above.
Suspended high above the racing rapids of the Niagara River, the Aero Car transports you 3,500 feet across the gorge on a round trip that takes about 10 minutes. The ride is standing-only, and halfway through, everyone switches sides so everyone can enjoy views from both angles.
Not far from the White Water Walk, it’s easy to fit this in on the same day. The views are incredible – just don’t drop your camera into the rapids below! It’s one of those experiences I recommend to anyone visiting the Falls for the first time.
DINNER: Choose a Spot in the Fallsview Tourist Area

After a full day of exploring, I’d recommend sticking close to the Fallsview tourist area for dinner. I do recommend doing some research and making some reservations for dinner, otherwise you’ll end up in Wendy’s or Burger King!
There are some great options to satisfy your appetite. Here are a few of my personal suggestions:
- The Flour Mill Scratch Kitchen: Located at the Old Stone Inn Hotel, this spot serves up fresh, locally inspired dishes.
- Taco N Tequila: Perfect if you’re in the mood for flavorful Mexican food with fun vibes.
- Copacabana Brazilian Steakhouse: A meat lover’s paradise, featuring all-you-can-eat skewers served tableside.
During peak season, I always recommend making a reservation to avoid long waits. These spots are popular for a reason – you can’t go wrong with any of them!
Stop 7: Ride the Niagara SkyWheel
⏰ Time: about 30 minutes $ Buy Tickets Now ✓ Open All Year

End your day with a ride on the Niagara SkyWheel, located in the heart of Clifton Hill. This giant Ferris wheel takes you 53 meters (175 feet) above the ground, offering spectacular views of the Falls and the city. It’s one of my favourite way to unwind and see the Falls lit up at night.
Each group gets their own gondola, giving you a private and peaceful ride. Once everyone is loaded, the SkyWheel goes around several times, so you’ll have plenty of chances to take in the views and snap photos from the top.

Niagara Falls Itinerary: Day 2
After exploring the Canadian side, Day 2 takes you across the border to the American side, where you’ll find some of the best up-close views – and a few hidden spots most first-time visitors miss.
Stop 1: Watch the Sunrise Over Niagara Falls
⏰ Time: about 30 minutes $ Free ✓ Open All Year

The sun rises over the Falls, make for incredible sunrise views over the water. So, if you’re an early bird, I strongly recommend you day by watching the sunrise over Niagara Falls. It’s an unforgettable experience that’s well worth waking up for.
One of the best features of staying in a Fallsview hotel room is enjoying the sunrise without even having to get out of your pyjamas! Order room service and enjoy the peaceful start to the day from the comfort of your room.
For a more immersive experience, head outside early to capture that perfect, crowd-free photo of the Falls as the sun rises. Trust me, it’s worth getting up early!
Stop 2: Walk the Rainbow Bridge to the United States
⏰ Time: about 1 hour minutes $1.00 ✓ Open All Year

I have been visiting Niagara Falls for years, but it was only last summer when I finally walked over the Rainbow Bridge to the American side of the Falls. I was so impressed with how great it was. I loved seeing the waterfalls from a different perspective.
With three days in Niagara Falls, it’s easy to include a visit to the US side in your itinerary. It’s also easy to walk across the bridge. All you need is your passport and $1.00 in cash to cross. You’ll go through customs on both sides, which usually only takes a few minutes.
Once across, head to Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the U.S. You can also hop on the park’s scenic trolley for an easy way to get around and see all the key spots.
The American side is a complete contrast to the Canadian side, so it’s worth spending time exploring both sides during your trip.

Stop 3: Go on Cave of the Winds
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Tickets Required ✓ Open All Year (limited access in winter)

If you do one thing on the U.S. side of Niagara Falls, make it the Cave of the Winds.
This self-guided experience takes you down an elevator and onto a series of wooden boardwalks that lead right to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. You’re so close, it feels like the waterfall is crashing right over you. In fact, if you stand on Hurricane Deck, it will crash right over you!
Tickets can only be purchased on-site, and it gets very busy during peak months, so I highly recommend arriving early to avoid long waits. (They’ll give you a free poncho and trust me, you’ll need it!)
If you aren’t planning to cross into the U.S., Journey Behind the Falls on the Canadian side also gets you close to the Falls, but if you can fit it in, Cave of the Winds feels even wilder and more up-close.
☞ Want a deeper look before deciding? Check out my full guide: Is Cave of the Winds Worth Visiting? where I break down everything you need to know about the experience.
LUNCH: Top of the Falls Restaurant
✓ Seasonal

For lunch on the U.S. side, I recommend the Top of the Falls Restaurant, located on Goat Island within Niagara Falls State Park. This spot offers incredible views of Terrapin Point and the Canadian Falls, making it a perfect mid-day break from sightseeing.
When I visited, we enjoyed our meal on the patio, overlooking the Falls – it was such a relaxing experience. The restaurant is open seasonally, so if you’re visiting in winter, you’ll need to make other lunch plans. Otherwise, it’s a ideal stop with a breathtaking view from the patio.
Stop 4: Walk Through New York Niagara Falls State Park
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $1.80 for the Obesrvation Tower ✓ Open All Year

After lunch, take some time to stroll through Niagara Falls State Park and soak in the natural beauty. The park offers excellent views of the American Falls from above and a chance to walk along the Niagara River rapids.
One of the hidden gems is the Observation Tower. The elevator and deck are open to all visitors for the low cost of $1.80. It extends out over the Niagara Gorge and has some of the best views of the American Falls. In fact, it’s one of my favourite photo spots in Niagara!
Alternative Options for Staying on the Canadian Side
Not planning to cross the border? No problem – here are a couple of fantastic options to fill your day with memorable experiences.
Alternative: Journey Behind the Falls
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Buy Tickets Now ✓ Open All Year (limited access in winter)

On the Canadian side, Journey Behind the Falls brings you 38 meters down into tunnels that lead to two observation decks and a portal – getting you closer to the power of the Horseshoe Falls than anywhere else.
☞ Looking for more information about this attraction? Read my review of Journey Behind the Falls for all the details.
Alternative: Niagara Power Station
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Buy Your Tickets Now ✓ Open All Year
Whether you visit during the day or after sunset when the Falls light up, the power station is a highlight you’ll definitely want to include in your Niagara Falls itinerary.
Alternative Lunch: Table Rock Restaurant
Enjoy a meal with stunning Horseshoe Falls views at this conveniently located restaurant, perfect for a relaxing midday break.
Stop 5: Dinner at the Skylon Tower

If you want to end your day with a memorable experience, consider having dinner at the Skylon Tower’s Revolving Restaurant. Not only will you have a great meal 236 meters above the Falls, access to the observation deck is included with your meal.
Now some say the Skylon Tower is a bit of a tourist trap, and I agree that it’s quite dated, but it does have some of the best views in Niagara, especially if you are not staying at one of the Fallsview hotels with a view.
✓ Ready for the Best Photos of Your Trip? Grab Your Skylon Tower Tickets Here!
Stop 6: Visit Clifton Hill
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Tickets Required for Attractions ✓ Open All Year

Finish the evening with a visit to Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls’ lively entertainment district. Often compared to a mini Las Vegas or Times Square, it’s definitely touristy – but also undeniably fun, especially if you’re traveling with kids or teens.
My kids absolutely love this area – between the giant arcades, mini-golf, and the Go Kart racing. It’s easy to spend a few hours here with all the entertainment options!
If you’re visiting with the family, you’ll find even more ideas in my guide to Niagara Falls with Kids to help you plan the perfect family day.
☞ Insider Tip: Planning to hit a few attractions on Clifton Hill? Grab the Clifton Hill Fun Pass – it bundles the top rides and games together and saves you around 40% compared to buying individual tickets. It’s the easiest way to maximize the fun without blowing your budget!
Stop 7: Visit the Niagara Power Station at Night
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Buy Tickets Now ✓ Open All Year

For a magical nighttime experience, head to the Niagara Parks Power Station. This historic hydroelectric plant, reopened as a tourist attraction in 2021. The highlight is a 2,200-foot-long tunnel located 180 feet underground. At the end of the tunnel is an outdoor observation deck at the river’s edge.
Visiting at night is especially stunning, with illuminated views of the Horseshoe Falls and a chance to see the fireworks. The power station is open for evening visits from 7 PM to 10 PM, making it a perfect way to end your day in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls Itinerary: Day 3
Day 3 takes you beyond the crowds, with a scenic drive along the Niagara Parkway, a visit to the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and time to relax at some of the region’s best wineries.
Stop 1: Drive Along the Niagara River Parkway
⏰ Time: about 45 minutes $ Free ✓ Open All Year

Start your final day with a scenic drive (or shuttle ride) along the Niagara Parkway, one of the most beautiful routes in the region. The road winds alongside the Niagara River, offering dozens of spots where you can pull over, stretch your legs, and soak in panoramic views of the water.
Along the way, stop at the Living Water Wayside Chapel – known as the world’s smallest chapel – for a quick but memorable visit.
If you’re driving, keep an eye out for roadside farmer’s markets. During the summer months, you’ll find stalls brimming with fresh local produce, homemade jams, maple syrup, and famously sweet Niagara peaches – an absolute must-try if they’re in season!
Stop 2: Stop by the Floral Clock
⏰ Time: about 15 minutes $ Free ✓ Open All Year

As you continue along the Niagara Parkway, make a quick stop at the Floral Clock — one of Niagara Parks’ most photographed landmarks.
Planted with over 16,000 vibrant flowers and redesigned twice a year, the clock is a beautiful and quirky tradition that’s been delighting visitors since 1950.
It’s a quick stop, but visiting the Floral Clock feels like stepping into a piece of Niagara’s history – a nostalgic landmark that’s been charming travellers for generations.
Stop 3: Visit Niagara-on-the-Lake
⏰ Time: about 1.5 hours $ Free (carriage rides require tickets) ✓ Open All Year

Just a 30-minute drive from Niagara Falls, the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is a must-visit. It’s one of my favourite places in Ontario – full of historic buildings, leafy streets, and a relaxed, small-town feel that’s a refreshing contrast to the buzz of the Falls.
Spend some time strolling along Queen Street, where you’ll find cozy cafes, boutique shops, art galleries, and charming old-world storefronts.
For an extra-special experience, take a horse-drawn carriage ride starting near the Prince of Wales Hotel. As you clip-clop through the Historic District and along the waterfront, your guide will share fascinating stories of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s rich past.

LUNCH: Niagara-on-the-Lake
After exploring the town, you’ll definitely want to slow down and enjoy a great meal and Niagara-on-the-Lake has no shortage of amazing spots. Here are a few of my personal favourites to check out:
- The Old Angel Inn: An authentic British pub over 230 years old, with a cozy beer garden. It’s pet- and family-friendly.
- Irish Harp Pub: A laid-back spot with great food at reasonable prices.
- Treadwell Cuisine: For something upscale, try their Lobster Club—it’s a must for lunch.
- Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club: The only restaurant with a patio right on the water, perfect for a relaxing meal with a view.
No matter where you choose, lunch in this charming town is always a treat!
Stop 4: Go on the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours
⏰ Time: about 1.5 hours $ Buy Tickets Now ✓Seasonal

After a relaxing morning in Niagara-on-the-Lake, why not kick things up a notch before heading back? If you’re craving a little adventure, the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours are the perfect way to end your trip on a high note.
This 45-minute ride takes you deep into the Niagara Gorge, where you’ll crash through the powerful Devil’s Hole Rapids and feel the raw power of the river up close. Be prepared – you will get absolutely soaked (but honestly, that’s half the fun!).
Prefer to stay dry? The Freedom Jet Boat offers a covered ride option, although it runs at limited times, so be sure to check the schedule before booking.
If you’re using the WEGO shuttle, no problem – the tour company offers transportation from the Floral Clock stop.
This is one of the most popular activities around Niagara Falls, and tickets sell out quickly, especially on warm days – I highly recommend booking early to lock in your spot on this popular tour.
✓ Book Your Whirlpool Jet Boat Adventure Here!
If you’re in the mood for something more relaxed instead of an adrenaline rush, spending an afternoon at Niagara’s wineries is a perfect choice.
You don’t need to be a wine expert to enjoy these beautiful estates – many offer gift shops, tours, tasting menus, outdoor patios, and even creative mocktails.
Whether you’re sipping a glass of local Riesling or simply soaking in the scenic vineyard views, it’s a peaceful and memorable way to wind down your trip. Personally, I highly recommend the Peach Wine Slushie at Konzelmann Estate Winery
Stop 5: Butterfly Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
⏰ Time: about 1 hour $ Buy Tickets Now for the Butterfly Conservatory ✓Open All Year

Step into a tropical paradise at the Butterfly Conservatory, where over 2,000 butterflies flutter freely along lush, winding pathways.
This self-guided experience doesn’t take long – about an hour – but it feels like stepping into another world, especially on a rainy day when the bright flowers and vibrant wings stand out even more. It’s a wonderful indoor activity for visitors of all ages, and especially magical for younger kids.
✓ Book Your Butterfly Conservatory Tickets Here!
Afterward, stroll through the attached Botanical Gardens, a 99-acre landscape filled with colorful seasonal blooms and meticulously designed gardens. Admission is free, making it an easy and peaceful add-on to your day.
Spring is my favourite time to visit Niagara. The cherry blossoms are absolutely breathtaking but if you’re there in summer, be sure to wander through the rose garden, home to more than 2,400 roses in full, fragrant bloom. It’s the perfect quiet escape from the busier tourist areas around Niagara Falls.
DINNER: Niagara Winery

End your day with dinner at one of Niagara’s incredible wineries – a truly memorable way to wrap up your vacation.
My husband and I recently had an amazing meal at Peller Estates for our anniversary, dining on the patio as the sun set over the vineyards. Their lobster pasta was outstanding, and the view was absolutely breathtaking – the kind of moment you don’t forget.
Another great option is the Whiskey Bar at Wayne Gretzky’s Winery, which offers excellent food, craft cocktails, and a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere.
Winery restaurants tend to offer much higher quality (and better value) than the more touristy spots around Clifton Hill, so I highly recommend making time for at least one during your Niagara Falls getaway.
Pro Tip: These restaurants are popular, especially in summer, so be sure to make a reservation in advance. And if you’re planning to enjoy a few drinks, consider calling an Uber back to your hotel for an easy, stress-free end to the evening.
Getting Around Niagara Falls

Walking
The main Fallsview tourist area is easy to explore on foot. The distance from the Welcome Centre to Clifton Hill is about 2 km one way. If you’re driving, plan to park in a lot and walk to the Falls, as metered parking spots along the Niagara River Parkway are very limited in this area.
Taking the WEGO Bus
To reach activities like the Floral Clock, White Water Walk, Aero Car, or Niagara-on-the-Lake, you’ll need to drive, bike, or take the WEGO Bus. This visitor-friendly bus system connects all major attractions with multiple routes.
A 24-hour or 48-hour pass makes it easy to hop on and off, and it’s a great option if you’re staying for two or more days. You can purchase passes online or at the Welcome Centre.
Incline Railway

The Incline Railway, located behind the Welcome Centre, offers a quick and convenient way to travel between the Horseshoe Falls and the Fallsview tourist area. It’s particularly useful if you’re staying at one of the Fallsview hotels and want an easy way to get up and down the hill.
Tip: If you’re planning to do several paid attractions, you may want to purchase the Niagara Falls Adventure Pass. Want to know it’s worth buying? Read my complete guide to the Adventure Pass tickets for all the details.
Where to Stay in Niagara Falls, Canada
Where you stay can make a big difference in how much you enjoy your Niagara Falls trip.
Whether you want to be right in the heart of the action or prefer a quieter, scenic escape, I’ve got two top picks that I personally recommend: the Sheraton Fallsview for amazing views and convenience, and the Holiday Inn Express in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a more peaceful, charming stay.
☞ Want even more options with incredible views? Check out my full guide to the Best Hotels with a View of Niagara Falls – perfect if waking up to the sight of the Falls is at the top of your wishlist.
Top Choice: Sheraton Fallsview Hotel

We’ve stayed at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel several times, especially when our kids were younger, and it’s still one of our all-time favourites.
You can’t beat the location – right across from the Falls and steps away from Clifton Hill – making it easy to catch the nightly fireworks, hop on Niagara City Cruises, or simply soak in the stunning scenery.
One of the Sheraton’s most unique features is the Juliet Balconies. There’s nothing quite like opening the doors and feeling the mist in the air as you watch all three waterfalls roaring below – right from the comfort of your room.
✓ Book Your Stay at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel Here!
Best Value: Holiday Inn Express – Niagara-on-the-Lake

As a local, the Holiday Inn Express Niagara-on-the-Lake has become our go-to choice when we visit Niagara Falls.
It’s a newer hotel offering clean, comfortable rooms, free breakfast, free parking, and some of the best rates in the area – making it a great option if you have a car.
While it’s a short drive from the main attractions, the location is perfect for a quieter, less touristy experience, with easy access to the Niagara Parkway and nearby wineries.
If you’re looking for great value without sacrificing comfort, this is an excellent pick.

Travelling from Toronto for a Weekend in Niagara Falls
Traveling from Toronto to Niagara Falls is quick and straightforward – it usually takes about two hours by car if traffic is on your side.
I’ve made this trip many times, and it’s the perfect add-on if you’re visiting Toronto and want to spend a couple of days exploring one of Canada’s most iconic destinations.
Driving gives you the most flexibility (especially for exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake), but taking the GO Train is also a comfortable and scenic option I’ve enjoyed in the past. Buses are available too, but they’re usually slower and less flexible for weekend trips.
If you’re not driving, be sure to check schedules in advance — planning ahead will help you make the most of your weekend. However you get there, Niagara Falls is one of the easiest and most rewarding getaways from Toronto!

What About Visiting Niagara Falls in the Winter?
Visiting Niagara Falls in the winter offers a completely different experience, but it does come with colder temperatures, so bundling up is essential. The icy weather can make spending time outdoors more challenging, but it also brings fewer crowds and stunning frozen landscapes.
While some attractions are closed for the season, the Winter Festival of Lights is a highlight, lighting up the area with festive displays.
Indoor activities like the Skylon Tower, Butterfly Conservatory or Niagara Parks Power Station are great options to stay warm while still exploring. A winter trip isn’t something to skip—it just requires a bit of extra planning and warm clothes!
3 Day Niagara Falls Itinerary
Whether you’re visiting Niagara Falls for the first time or returning to see it in a different season, this iconic destination never fails to impress. With the right planning, your three-day trip can be packed with unforgettable sights, scenic drives, delicious food, and memorable adventures – no matter the time of year.
I hope this guide helps you craft the perfect Niagara Falls itinerary and experience everything this incredible region has to offer. Ready to start planning? Choose your dates, book your tickets, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure at one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders!
