Frequently Asked Questions: Visiting Tulip Farms in Ontario
Do I need to purchase a ticket?
Every pick-you-own or u-pick tulip farm in Ontario requires a ticket. All farms encourage pre-purchase online, but most have tickets available when you arrive.
Every farm has different ticket prices. Some ticket prices are higher on weekends, some include tulips, and prices for children are different at every farm.
Most farms average $17-20 per person and include 10 u-pick tulips in that price. You will want to check the official website for accurate ticket prices.
When should I visit the Tulip Fields?
Tulips usually bloom late April into early May, but spring flowers are always weather dependent, so you will want to watch the weather and social media for exact opening dates. Many farms also have tulips that bloom early, mid, and late season, ensuring there are always flowers to see throughout the tulip season.
I do recommend that you try to visit the fields earlier in the season. As visitors come to the farms and pick the flowers, this alters the blooms visible each day. I find that later in the season the state of the blooms are not as vibrant as they are during the opening days.
Should I pre-purchase a ticket?
If you want to go on a weekend or at a certain time, such as sunset, you will likely want to pre-purchase your ticket. The fields can get really busy and you might not be able to visit the farm.
Special days, such as Mother’s Day or Victoria Day will also likely sell out.
If you are visiting in the week, it is less likely that you will have a problem visiting the fields without a pre-purchased ticket.
What if it rains?
Most farms are open rain or shine. They would only close under severe weather conditions. If the weather looks unfavourable, it would be best to check the farm’s social media accounts for an update (they tend not to update their websites for daily changes).
Farms will not refund your ticket due to rain, unless they cancel due to severe weather. Bring your umbrellas and your rain boots and expect to get a little wet and muddy.
How long should we expect to visit?
Most visitors stay one to two hours to experience the tulip fields.
Am I allowed to take photographs?
Most farms encourage photos for personal use and enjoy when you to tag and share your photos and videos online. Drones are not allowed at any of the farms. There are often reserved times available for professional photographers to book for an additional fee.
Final Thoughts: Tulip Farms in Ontario
I love when spring arrives in Ontario and all the beautiful flowers that start to bloom. Every spring I can’t wait to see Toronto’s cherry blossoms. From there, I enjoy the tulip farms, and then August brings another opportunity to visit sunflower farms across Ontario.
The tulip farms provide a picturesque backdrop for photos, and are an ideal way to celebrate spring, spending time outdoors with family and family.
But, if you’re thinking about heading out to pick your own tulips, don’t procrastinate. The season is short, so don’t wait for these flowers once they start blooming!
