Is the Niagara SkyWheel Worth It? A Local’s Honest Review (2026)

With so many attractions competing for your time in Niagara Falls, it’s fair to wonder whether the Niagara SkyWheel is actually worth it.
Since I live nearby in Toronto, I figured it was about time I rode it myself so I could give you an honest recommendation rather than just repeating what everyone else says online.
After finally trying it, I can honestly say I enjoyed it much more than I expected. While I still think the Skylon Tower is the slightly better choice if you only have time for one observation attraction, the Niagara SkyWheel is fun, affordable, and well worth considering, especially if you’re already planning to spend time on Clifton Hill.
In this review, I’ll share what this iconic Niagara Falls ferris wheel is really like, who I think will enjoy it most, and whether it’s worth adding to your Niagara itinerary.
What Is the Niagara SkyWheel Ride Actually Like?
The Niagara SkyWheel is a 175-foot observation wheel right in the middle of Clifton Hill on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The best part? It has enclosed gondolas that give you awesome views over Niagara Falls and the surrounding area.
While each gondola can hold up to eight people, you always travel with your own group. So for me, because I went solo, I got the entire space to myself and didn’t have to share the views with anyone else.
The gondola is also completely enclosed, with air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. That means Niagara’s ferris wheel runs year-round, so you don’t necessarily need perfect weather to ride it.
Once you’re on the ride, expect to spend around 10 minutes going around the wheel several times. From the top, you can see the Horseshoe and American Falls, the Niagara River, and across Clifton Hill.
One thing to keep in mind is that the ferris wheel is not directly beside the Falls. The SkyWheel sits back on Clifton Hill, so the view is more of a panorama of Niagara Falls rather than a close-up view of the water.
I actually liked that perspective because I could see much more of the area at once and I got some of my favourite videos from my trip up there.
How Much Does the Niagara SkyWheel Cost?
A ride on the Niagara SkyWheel costs around $15 for adults and $7 for children, which I think is pretty reasonable for a Niagara Falls attraction.
But, if you’re planning to spend even half a day on Clifton Hill, I’d book the Fun Pass instead of buying individual tickets. The pass includes the SkyWheel and ends up costing much less if you’re doing several attractions.

The pass costs around $40 for adults and $27 for kids and lets you choose 6 out of 8 attractions, including the Niagara SkyWheel, Dinosaur Adventure Mini Golf, Movieland Wax Museum, and several 4D rides.
That works out to less than $7 per attraction for an adult, so you can get a lot more for your money if you were already planning to do a few things on Clifton Hill.
I think the pass makes even more sense if you’re visiting Niagara Falls with kids or teens. Clifton Hill feels a bit like a mini-amusement park, with arcade games, rides, mini golf, bright lights, and attractions everywhere you look. There’s a lot going on, and it’s a fun place to spend an evening rather than just coming over for one ride on the ferris wheel and leaving.
For me, that’s where this observation wheel becomes especially good value. I found $15 to be a fair price for the ride on its own, but if you have the time to use most of the Fun Pass, I’d definitely go with the bundle instead.
Things to Consider Before Riding the Niagara Falls Ferris Wheel
While I really enjoyed the SkyWheel, there are a few things I think you should know before buying a ticket.
First, the ride isn’t right beside Niagara Falls. It’s located on Clifton Hill, so you’re seeing the Falls from a bit of a distance rather than looking straight down over them.
You still get a beautiful panoramic view from the top but I do think some of the promotional photos make the ferris wheel look closer to the Falls than it actually is.
You should also know that Clifton Hill is very touristy. Think flashing lights, arcades, wax museums, mini golf, rides, and lots of people. I think it’s a fun contrast to the natural beauty of the Falls, especially in the evening, but it won’t appeal to everyone.
And finally, this isn’t an attraction that will take up half your day. The ride itself is fairly short, which could feel expensive if you’re paying for an individual ticket and expecting a lengthy experience.
Personally, I actually see that as a positive. You can hop on, enjoy the views, cool off (or warm up in winter!), and then continue exploring Niagara Falls without having to build your entire day around it.
I’d allow about an hour if you’re just doing the SkyWheel and walking Clifton Hill, or 2-3 hours if you’re using the Fun Pass.
Which Is Better: Skylon Tower or the SkyWheel?
If you only have the time or budget to visit the Skylon Tower or ride the Niagara SkyWheel, I’d pick the Skylon Tower.
The Skylon Tower
The Skylon costs a little more, but you can stay on the observation decks for as long as you like. I loved being able to take my time, walk around, and see Niagara Falls from different angles rather than having a set amount of time before the ride ended.
As a photographer, I also preferred the Skylon Tower because it has an outdoor observation deck in addition to the indoor views. You can take photos without shooting through glass, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to avoid reflections and glare.
Finally, the Skylon Tower is closer to the falls with the American Falls directly in front of the tower. I’m all about the views so I believe the Skylon Tower hands down wins in this category!
Niagara SkyWheel
That doesn’t mean I’d skip the SkyWheel, though. They’re actually quite different experiences.
The SkyWheel is more of a ride. You climb into your own enclosed gondola and slowly circle above Clifton Hill several times. It’s also cheaper, climate-controlled, and easy to fit into an evening exploring Clifton Hill.
The Skylon Tower, on the other hand, is where I’d go primarily for the views. You’re higher up, you aren’t limited by the length of a ride, and you can to enjoy the 360 degree views at your own pace.
If you can fit both into your Niagara Falls itinerary, I think they’re different enough to justify doing both. I did, and I’m very glad I did.
If getting the best views is your priority, I’d personally book the Skylon Tower. If you’re spending the evening on Clifton Hill or travelling with kids, I’d choose the SkyWheel instead.

For families, I think it’s an even easier yes. Pair it with the Clifton Hill Fun Pass and you can make an entire afternoon or evening out of the SkyWheel, mini golf, arcade games, and other attractions.
Would I go again? Yes – but next time, I’d ride at night.
I loved the daytime views, but seeing the illuminated Falls and all the lights of Clifton Hill from above is something I definitely want to experience on my next trip.
So, if you’re wondering whether the Niagara SkyWheel is worth it, my answer is yes. It may not be the one attraction that defines a trip to Niagara Falls, but it’s a fun way to see the area from a completely different perspective – and one I’m glad I did.
