Is a Blue Jays Game Worth It? A Rogers Centre Guide for First-Time Visitors
If you’re visiting Toronto you might be wondering… is a Blue Jays game worth attending, especially if you’re not a baseball fan?
I get it. Sitting through a three-hour game in a sport you don’t fully understand doesn’t exactly sound like a must-do travel experience.
But after going to Blue Jays games for over 30 years, growing up here in Toronto, attending at least 10 games every season, and even being there for the Jay’s 2025 World Series run, I can tell you this: a Toronto Blue Jays game is about so much more than baseball.
It’s the view when the roof is open on a perfect summer day. It’s the way the entire stadium comes alive after a big hit. It’s walking to the game with thousands of fans dressed in Blue Jays gear. You can’t help but find yourself getting caught up in the excitement and atmosphere of a Jays game.
A memory I’ll never forget was being at the Rogers Centre when George Springer hit his incredible home run and we knew the Jays were heading to the World Series. The noise was so loud you couldn’t hear the person next to you. People were jumping, spilling drinks, and hugging complete strangers. You don’t need to understand baseball to feel something like that.
In this Rogers Centre guide, I’ll show you exactly what to expect at a Blue Jays game, where to sit based on decades of experience in every section, and how to make the most of your visit, even if you’ve never watched a single inning of baseball before.

Why a Blue Jays Game Is Worth It (Even If You Don’t Like Baseball)

If you love sports, then yes, a Toronto Blue Jays game will absolutely be worth your time. But even if you don’t follow baseball at all, this is one of those experiences in Toronto that goes far beyond what’s happening on the field.
What makes a game at Rogers Centre so special is the atmosphere. It’s hard to fully explain until you’re sitting in your seat, standing to cheer when there are two strikes, or celebrating with 40,000 fans when Vladdy hits a home run.
That’s what makes this such a uniquely Canadian experience. The Toronto Blue Jays are the only Major League Baseball team in the country, which means fans travel from across Canada to watch them play. It’s not just a local crowd. It feels like the whole country shows up.
So if you’re visiting Toronto this summer and wondering whether to add a Blue Jays game to your itinerary, think of it less as watching a sport and more about participating in a truly Canadian experience.
A Guide to the Rogers Centre in Toronto and What to Expect

The Blue Jays play out of Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. It has a retractable dome roof and is located in the heart of downtown Toronto.
📌 Local Tip: Do NOT confuse Rogers Centre and Rogers Stadium. Rogers Stadium is an outdoor concert venue in the north end of the city. Read my local guide to watching a concert at Rogers Stadium for all the details.
How to Get to Rogers Centre (Easy Options for Visitors)

One of the biggest advantages of Rogers Centre is its location. Right in the heart of downtown Toronto, it’s steps from the city’s most iconic attractions. In fact, the CN Tower and Ripley’s Aquarium are right beside the stadium.
Getting to Rogers Centre is easy, which is a big reason why it works so well for tourists.
Union Station, Toronto’s transportation hub, is a 5 minute walk. There are lots of hotels within walking distance of Rogers Centre plus there are restaurants and cafes on every corner.
You can walk, cycle, take the subway, streetcar or GO Train to a game. Catching a taxi or taking an Uber is easy too. Even if you are flying into Toronto’s Pearson Airport (YYZ), you can be downtown in 25 minutes by catching the UP Express train directly from the airport.
If you’ve been to stadiums in other cities, you’ll understand the convenience of being able to just walk to an event from your hotel in just a few minutes.

What Makes Rogers Centre Unique?

One of the most unique parts of visiting Rogers Centre is the retractable roof, and it really does change the entire feel of the game. Locals often refer to the stadium as the Skydome (or Dome), nostalgically remembering its former name before it became the Rogers Centre.
Another feature is the newly renovated stadium with different zones of entertainment. Hang out in one of the many bars, watch players warm up in the dugout, walk around the 100 level to see Jays memorabilia, or take selfies at the many different photo ops on every level.
On a warm summer day, when the roof is open, you can see the CN Tower towering above and even experience the sun setting during an evening game. And honestly, it’s pretty cool to be in the dome when the roof opens or closes mid-game.
I have also been on the top of the CN Tower looking down into the Rogers Centre when the roof is open – it’s a really fascinating perspective and I highly recommend adding a trip up the CN Tower to your visit to Rogers Centre.
What the Atmosphere Is Really Like at a Blue Jays Game

If you’re worried about not knowing the rules of baseball, don’t be. The atmosphere at a Blue Jays game is exciting, welcoming, and electric.
We often have tourists sitting beside us when we go to a game, and they always end up getting caught up in the game. As locals we are happy to explain what is happening in the game and you’ll soon be on your feet cheering like everyone else after a big hit!
Buying Tickets to a Blue Jays Game
Tickets for Toronto Blue Jays games are available through Ticketmaster Canada.

With over 80 home games each season between April and September, there are usually plenty of dates to choose from. However, some games are much harder to get tickets for, especially:
- Home Opener – First home game of the year
- Canada Day (July 1)
- Playoff games (“October baseball”)
In the past, it was easy to get tickets to most games, but after the excitement of the 2025 World Series run, demand has definitely increased. Popular summer games and giveaway nights can sell out quickly.
If you’re visiting Toronto and know you want to go, I’d recommend buying your Jays tickets earlier than you think, especially for weekend games.
Where to Sit at Rogers Centre (Best Seats for Every Budget)
With so many seating options at Rogers Centre, choosing where to sit can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first game.
The good news is that after sitting in just about every section, I can confidently say this: there are no bad seats, but there are definitely better choices depending on the experience you want and your budget.
Best Seats at Rogers Centre for First-Time Visitors
If it’s your first time, I almost always recommend sitting in the 200 level seats. This is personally my favourite place to sit.
We have sat in the 100 level seats dozens of times – which are closer to the field – but I find I still have to adjust to see around people in front of me (especially if someone tall sits in front of me). The 200 level has a better angle and gives you a much clearer overall view of the game. I do, however, suggest sitting in the front of the section.
If you want a great first impression of a Blue Jays game, this is where I’d start.
Best Cheap Seats at Rogers Centre

If you’re looking to save money, the 500 level is a fantastic option.
This is actually where our family’s season tickets are, and we genuinely love it. You’re very high up, but you can see the entire field and it’s also where a lot of the energy is. Fans up here are relaxed, social, and just there to have fun. Some of our most memorable games have been from these seats.
Just beware, some may be a bit nervous sitting up this high in the stadium – you really are very high off the ground.
Most Unique Seats at Rogers Centre

If you want something a little different, look at seats in the outfield near the bullpen.
These seats give you a completely different perspective. You can watch pitchers warming up, have a chance at catching a home run ball, and see the field from an entirely different angle. It’s not the traditional “behind home plate” view, but it’s one of the most fun and underrated experiences in the stadium.
The Outfield District (Best for a Casual Experience)

If you don’t care about having a dedicated seat, the general admission (known as the Outfield District) tickets can be a really fun option.
These areas are more social, with bars, standing rails, and open spaces where you can move around. It’s a great choice if you’re visiting with friends and want a more casual experience.
Just keep in mind that these tickets tend to sell out quickly, especially on weekends and you usually have to go very early to claim a seat (or a perch) with a view of the ballpark.
Premium Seats at Rogers Centre (Are They Worth It?)

If you’re celebrating something special or just want to splurge, the premium sections can be an incredible experience. These sections include areas like the Banner Club, Club 328, and the Terrace Club.
I’ve been lucky enough to sit in the Banner Club seats several times, and it really is on another level. You’re closer to the action, have access to dedicated spaces, and often get perks like food, drinks, and shorter lines. Many sections also include guaranteed promotions and give-aways.
It’s definitely not necessary to enjoy the game, but if this is a bucket list experience, it can be worth considering.
My Personal Seat Recommendations
If you’re visiting for the first time, I’d keep it simple:
- 200 level → best overall experience
- 500 level → best value + most fun atmosphere
If you’re planning your trip during peak season or a popular series (like the New York Yankees), buy your tickets early if you want particular seats. I’m currently looking for tickets for Mother’s Day and I can only find single seats – even in the 500s!
Is a Blue Jays Game Good for Kids? What Families Should Know

Yes – absolutely. Going to a game at Rogers Centre is one of the most family-friendly experiences you can have in Toronto.
Even if your kids don’t care about baseball, there’s more than enough to keep them entertained.
Every Sunday are Jr. Jays Days. Kids can run the bases after the game (sign up is required) and there are inflatables outside, face painting, and games inside the stadium on Jr. Jays Sundays. Your kids will not be bored if you head to a Jays game on a Sunday!
Even if you attend a game on a different day of the week, spaces like TD Park Social on the 500 level have games, swings, and even grilled cheese sandwiches! It’s a very relaxed kid-friendly atmosphere.
If you’re visiting Toronto with kids and want something fun, easy, and memorable, a Blue Jays game is an ideal option.
The Hotel Inside Rogers Centre (What It’s Really Like to Stay There)
If you’re looking for a one -of-a-kind experience in Toronto, there’s actually a hotel inside Rogers Centre – and yes, you can watch a Blue Jays game right from your room.
Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel – the Only MLB Park in a Stadium

The Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel is easily one of the most unique hotel stays in the city, and honestly, one of the coolest sports experiences we’ve had. Rogers Centre is the only MLB park that has a hotel IN the stadium.
If you book a stadium-view room during a game you can watch the Jays play while sitting in your room. The windows open and you can hear the crowd, see the lights, and follow everything without ever leaving your room.
Sports-lovers will want to book this bucket-list experience as there is nowhere else in the world where you can stay inside a live sports stadium.
What to Know Before Booking a Rogers Centre Hotel Room
If you want to stay at the Blue Jays stadium, there are a couple of important things to know.
- Not all rooms face the field → you need to book a stadium-view room
- Stadium-view rooms sell out quickly, especially for game days
⚾️ Ready to book this once-in-a-lifetime experience? Book your stadium-view rooms now before they sell out on game day!
Is the Rogers Centre Hotel Worth It?
In my opinion, yes – if it fits your budget and you’re looking for a unique hotel experience. It’s one of those experiences you will remember for years. If you’re visiting Toronto for a special trip or celebrating something, this is absolutely worth considering.
On the other hand, while the city-view rooms are nice, but they don’t offer the same wow factor as hotel rooms overlooking the field. If you’re not going to book a stadium-view room, there are many other hotels near Rogers Centre that you may also want to consider for your visit to Toronto.

Rogers Centre Tips: How to Make the Most of Your First Blue Jays Game
After going to games at Rogers Centre for years, we’ve figured out what actually makes the experience better. These are the tips we still follow every time we go.
Arrive Early (Especially for Giveaways & Promotions)

If there’s one tip I’d stress the most, it’s this: don’t show up right at game time. It’s worth coming early to listen to the national anthems, explore the stadium, buy some over-priced food and beer, and take lots of selfies.
The Blue Jays are also known for their giveaways, and people take them seriously. We’ve lined up hours before gates open just to get a bobblehead or jersey. For the last giveaway there were people who arrived 2 hours ahead of the game and still did not get the hockey jersey promotion.
If there’s a promotion you want, aim to arrive at least 2 hours before first pitch. Even if you’re not there for a giveaway, arriving early gives you time to get through security, find your seats, and explore the stadium before the game begins.
Can You Bring Food Into Rogers Centre? (Yes, Here’s How)
This is one of the best perks of a game here at Rogers Stadium – visitors are allowed to bring outside food and non-alcoholic drinks (in sealed, plastic bottles or cans of 600ml or less) into the ballpark.
We take full advantage of this option. We usually pack things like chips, chocolate bars, and a can of soda. It saves a surprising amount of money, especially as a family.
Buying Food at the Rogers Centre
Although they have tried to improve the food options and quality at the stadium, I have to say that compared to some other MLB stadiums we have visited, the food is mediocre. And, it’s expensive! For example, my fried chicken sandwich with fries cost me about $30 CND at the last game I went to.
Don’t expect a great foodie experience at this ballpark. Instead, save your money for one of Toronto’s incredible restaurants located all around the stadium instead.
Explore the Rogers Centre

One of the biggest mistakes first-time visitors make is staying in their seat the whole game. Each level has a different vibe, and there are plenty of great views, photo spots, and areas you’d miss otherwise.
On the 100 level you can check out all the incredible Jays memorabilia including programs, bats, gloves, and even the Jays Home Run Jacket. On the 200 level grab a drink in the WestJet Flight Deck, or head up to the 500s to hear live music or check out the views from Corona Landing.
Expect Long Lines at the Jays Shop During the Game
If you’re planning to buy Blue Jays gear, the lines to get into the official Jays store during a game are very long! We have seen them going all the way up the ramps towards the 200 level at times.
This means it’s also really busy inside the store. It’s hard to move, find your sizes, or get help. So if you can, I recommend going to the Jays Shop earlier in the day or on a non-game day. It’s a much better experience.
Looking for other options? Sports Check in Maple Leaf Square is a good alternative for purchasing your Jays merchandise.
Parking at the Rogers Centre
Visitors always ask where to park near Rogers Centre. There are many public parking lots close to the ballpark but they often charge event parking. The other issue with parking lots near the stadium is that it’s very challenging to get out of the parking lot after a game with thousands of people blocking your way.
I recommend parking a short walk away. That way you are close to the stadium, but not directly beside it trying to navigate the traffic chaos following the game.
My two recommendations include the Green P lot at York and Front and the Green P Lot at St. Lawrence Market.
Other Things To Do Near Rogers Centre (Perfect for First-Time Visitors)

One of the best things about visiting Rogers Centre is how close it is to most of Toronto’s top attractions.
If you’re planning your Toronto itinerary around a Blue Jays game (or two), it’s easy to turn it into a full weekend itinerary without needing to travel far.
Here are a few great options to combine with your visit:
- Visit the CN Tower for incredible views over the city
- Explore the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, especially if you’re visiting with kids
- Take a ferry to the Toronto Islands for skyline views, beaches, and a quiet escape from downtown (ideal in the summer)
- Walk along the waterfront or grab dinner nearby before heading into the game
- Stop by the Hockey Hall of Fame if you want a quick dose of Canadian sports culture
Everything is within walking distance or a short ride, which makes it incredibly easy to include a baseball game in your Toronto travel plans.
Why You Should Add a Blue Jays Game to Your Toronto Itinerary
If you’re planning a trip to Toronto, including plans to go to a Jays game at Rogers Centre is one of the easiest ways to turn a good trip into an awesome one.
A Jays game is so much more than baseball – it’s about joining Torontonians as they cheer on their beloved baseball team. The Toronto Blue Jays are Canada’s only MLB team, and it can feel like the whole country shows up to watch a game.
After going to Jays games for over 30 years, it’s still something our family looks forward to every season. Not just for the sport, but for the atmosphere, the tradition, and the experience of being there together.
Even if you’re not a baseball fan, and even if you’re only in the city for a few days April through September, this is one experience that I always recommend doing, especially for first-time visitors.
So if you’re planning your Toronto itinerary, I’d genuinely recommend making time for a baseball game. Check the schedule, pick a game, and help Toronto cheer on the Jays.
