What to Expect at The Grand Moon Palace Water Park
The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun Water Park recently underwent renovations, and all the slides and water features are now fully open. During our stay, we were amazed by the range of water activities. From the lazy river to water slides to the FlowRider surf simulator there are lots of things to do at the park.
The Water Park has climbers and splash zones for younger children, while older kids can enjoy the larger slides.
There’s plenty of seating throughout the park, with chairs and umbrellas offering shade and a place to relax. Bar and food service is also available in the Water Park, making it easy to spend the whole day here!
The park operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and one of the perks we enjoyed was that kids aged 10 and older can explore the park on their own, giving them some freedom while parents relax nearby. Just note that there are age and height restrictions on some of the larger slides and the FlowRider.
The Water Park at The Grand is ideal for:
- Guests looking for a luxury all-inclusive resort with a Water Park
- Families traveling with kids, especially those aged 4 to 15
- Access to a large playroom with plenty of activities to keep kids entertained
- Enjoying a variety of water features, including a lazy river, FlowRider, and large water slides
- Travellers looking for a resort in Cancun with great restaurants, lots of activities, entertainment, excellent pools and a large water park

Things to Do at the Water Park
For many families, the Water Park is their favourite thing to do when staying at the resort. However, it’s hard to find out exactly what there is to do at the park. Keep reading for an overview of the Water Park to help you decide if it meets your travel needs!
FlowRider Surf Simulator
The FlowRider Surf Simulator is one of the top attractions at The Grand Moon Palace Water Park. This exciting attraction offers two ways to ride: stand-up surfing on the Flowboard or bodyboarding on the other side.
During our visit, the staff were fantastic offering tips and guidance as guests learned to surf. With the popularity of this ride, I’d recommend going early to avoid long wait times.
If you’re not staying at The Grand, there is another FlowRider at the Moon Palace Cancun Sunrise section
FlowRider rules:
- Minimum height: 52” (1.32m) for the Flowboard and 42” (1.06m) for the Bodyboard
- Waivers must be signed by parents for participants under 18, and they’ll receive a wristband
Large Water Slides
The large water slides at Water Park are ideal for older kids, especially those aged 10 and up. There are three spiralling slides. Two slides use 2-seater tubes, where riders must pair up, and one slide is a solo carpet ride.
There are minimum height and age restrictions on the water slides and the lifeguards are really strict at enforcing the rules. We did see some disappointed children who were not tall enough to go on these slides.
Younger kids can, however, enjoy smaller water slides in the Aqua Play structure. And, if you’re not staying at The Grand, there’s still a large waterslide available at Moon Palace Cancun’s Nizuc section.
Water Slide Rules and Height Restrictions
- Large Slide: Riders must be at least 12 years old and 62” (1.4m or 4’7”)
- Smaller Slide: Riders must be at least 10 years old and 47” (1.20m or 3’11”)
- The two 2-seater tube slides require riders to go down in pairs
Lazy River
The lazy river at Moon Palace Cancun is a perfect spot to relax and it’s great for all ages. It’s a simple, wide loop around the playroom area, with no extra water features—just a calm, steady float.
When we visited, there were plenty of tubes available, and it was a nice way to cool off after a day in the hot sun. You can float along in a tube or swim freely if you prefer.
Aqua Park
The Aqua Park is a fantastic spot for children aged approximately 6 to 10. It is a huge play structure that’s perfect for climbing, running, and exploring.
One of the highlights is the giant dumping bucket, along with stairs, bridges, water sprays, and spray cannons that add to the fun.
The park also features three waterslides built into the structure. It’s ideal for slightly older kids but who may not be old enough for the large waterslides.
It was clear the kids were enjoying themselves running through the play structure!
Toddler Aqua Park
The Toddler Aqua Park is designed for kids aged 4 to 7, offering a smaller, one-level play area that’s best suited for little ones.
It features several small slides, water sprays, and fun loops and arches to run through. During my visit, it was great to see the younger kids having a blast as they ran and played in the water features.
Interactive Zone
The Interactive Zone is a splash pad with various spray elements, making it a fun place to run through on a hot day.
With no water depth at all and a non-slip surface, it’s a safe spot for younger kids to enjoy without any worries about deeper water.
Wave Pool
The wave pool at The Grand Moon Palace Water Park is quite small, and to be honest, it didn’t leave much of an impression on me. Despite visiting the park several times, I never actually saw the waves in action, and from what I gathered, they seem to be pretty minor.
It feels more like a standard swimming pool where you can cool off rather than a true wave pool experience. That said, the kids there seemed to really enjoy splashing around, even if it wasn’t particularly appealing to me.
The Grand at Moon Palace Playroom
The playroom at The Grand Moon Palace is right in the centre of the Water Park. The playroom is enormous, filled with activities that make it a standout attraction for families.
With unlimited free video games, a climbing ropes course, bumper cars, a three-level jungle gym, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, and laser tag, there’s no shortage of ways for kids to have fun.
The space is divided into two areas: one for those 8 and older, and another for kids 7 and under. The climbing structure is restricted to the older kids. Younger children can enjoy the toddler playroom, where those aged 4 to 7 can be left with staff supervision.
One thing to keep in mind: it can get really loud in the playroom, which might not be ideal for parents watching their kids run around, though the kids certainly don’t seem to mind.
With so much to offer, the playroom is one of the key reasons a stay at The Grand is worth considering for families. It adds an extra layer of entertainment that goes beyond the typical resort experience.
Bike Rental
At The Grand Moon Palace, you can also borrow a bike for free for up to two hours. It’s a great way to explore the property.
Just keep in mind that kids 10 and under need to be with an adult, and you’ll need to wear closed-toed shoes. Be careful not to leave the bike unattended, as there’s a $100 charge if it goes missing.
Mini Golf at The Grand
For some outdoor fun, head to the 9-hole mini golf course located right behind the Aqua Play structure. It’s a great way to pass the time, though the course is fully exposed to the sun, so be prepared for the heat if you play during the day. It’s a perfect activity for a cloudy day!
If you are not staying at The Grand, you can borrow bicycles and play mini golf at the Sunrise and Nizuc properties as well.
Water Park Store
If you forget any essentials, there is a small store within Water Park with everything from sunscreen to bathing suits, swim diapers, flotation devices, and more.
However, be prepared for high prices—it’s definitely better to bring your own supplies if you can.
Food and Drink at the Water Park
The Water Park has two full-service bars, though there isn’t a swim-up bar. Servers are happy to bring food and drinks directly to your lounge chair, which makes relaxing even easier. Inside the playroom, there are kid-friendly snacks that all the kids love.
Visiting the Water Park from Nizuc, Sunrise, or Beach Palace
Access to the water park is reserved for guests staying at The Grand, but if you’re staying at Nizuc, Sunrise, or Beach Palace, you can purchase a day pass to enjoy the park.
Day passes are available only when The Grand is not at capacity and cost $100 per day for adults and $60 per day for kids during our last visit.
While this may seem pricey, it’s still more affordable than staying at The Grand itself.
Another option is to attend one of the resort’s membership presentations, where you may be able to negotiate day passes as part of the incentive.
Water Park Tips
- If your child needs a life jacket, bring one from home as the resort doesn’t provide any.
- Bring your own floaties, as they are expensive in the gift shops.
- Don’t forget to pack swim diapers.
- Arrive early to get prime seating at the Water Park.
- Head to the FlowRider first, as lines get busy later in the day.
- Set expectations with your children ahead of time regarding height restrictions for the water slides to avoid disappointment.
Is the Moon Palace Water Park in Cancun Worth It?
Yes, especially if you’re looking for an all-inclusive resort that caters to families. While the water park is perfect for kids aged 4-10, older teens and adults might not find it as exciting beyond the FlowRider and water slides—both of which are also available at Sunrise and Nizuc.
That said, staying at The Grand offers much more than just the water park. The resort’s wide range of dining options, multiple pools, and endless activities make Moon Palace an excellent choice for a luxurious family vacation.
If your family is set on spending a day at the water park, you can always purchase a day pass. But if you want a full, all-inclusive experience with top-notch entertainment and amenities, booking a stay at The Grand at Moon Palace is the way to go.
