If you’re looking for classic Christmas charm in Toronto, the Distillery District’s Winter Village – often referred to as Toronto’s Christmas Market – is an absolute must. It’s one of the most beloved Toronto holiday lights destinations – complete with cozy cafés and artisan gift stalls.

This historic cobblestone neighborhood transforms into a twinkling wonderland during the holidays, complete with a massive Christmas tree, sparkling photo ops, cozy cafés, and some of the best seasonal vibes in the city. It’s one of the most popular places to catch Christmas light displays in Toronto – and for good reason.

Visiting the Distillery Christmas Market is an annual tradition for my family. We drink hot chocolate, browse the artisan stalls for early gift shopping, and snap a photo in front of the towering tree or with Santa himself. The entire space feels magical, especially with the historic architecture as a backdrop.

But be warned – it gets busy. Expect long lines and heavy crowds on weekends and anytime close to Christmas. That’s why we always go early in the season when the lights are just as beautiful, but the atmosphere is a little calmer.

Inside, each room is decked out with uniquely themed trees and festive décor – from the massive 40-foot Christmas tree in the Great Hall to smaller, artist-designed trees tucked into every historic room. 

But one of my favourite things to do is to walk through the tunnel from the castle to the stables before visiting Santa in his workroom. 

But it’s not just the castle’s interior that shines. The Holiday Lights Tour is a separate, ticketed outdoor experience that winds through Casa Loma’s gardens, tunnels, and pathways. It’s entirely self-guided and filled with dazzling Christmas lights, music, performances, and a visit with Santa. 

That said, I don’t always have time to explore the full castle experience. Some years, I just stop by in the evening to see the exterior lit up with holiday lights – it’s absolutely stunning from the outside. You can enjoy the festive glow, snap holiday photos with your family, and soak in the magic without even stepping inside.

The park transforms into a true holiday wonderland, with themed areas like Candy Cane Lane and the Northern Starlight Tunnel, sparkling lights around every corner, and festive music filling the air. From enchanting displays to outdoor fire pits and a massive skating rink on Snow Flake Lake, it’s packed with holiday magic.

You’ll also find select rides open, holiday shows, seasonal treats, and plenty of photo ops—making it a fantastic choice for families or a festive date night. It’s not exactly a budget-friendly outing (admission, parking, food, and extra-charge attractions can add up fast), but it’s definitely a memorable one.

One year, we splurged and rented an igloo for the evening and it was perfect for a special occasion. Warm, private, and super cosy, it made the whole night feel extra special.

4. Hidden Christmas Lights at Berczy Park Near St. Lawrence Market

Tucked beside St. Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto, Berczy Park is a true hidden gem – especially during the holidays.

The park’s whimsical centrepiece is a two-tiered fountain surrounded by 27 playful dog sculptures (and one mischievous cat), all eyeing the golden bone perched on top. It’s a hit year-round, but during the festive season, holiday lights are added throughout the park to match the quirky theme.

It’s a small display, but incredibly charming – and one most people (even most locals) don’t know exists. If you’re nearby, it’s well worth a detour for a quick dose of light-hearted holiday cheer.

5. Cavalcade of Lights: Free Christmas Lights and Skating Downtown

Cavalcade of Lights is one of Toronto’s most well-known free holiday events in Toronto and you’ll find it mentioned on nearly every list of Christmas lights Toronto has to offer. 

Skating under the twinkle of city lights with the huge Toronto sign in the background is definitely the highlight here. The rink is free if you bring your own skates (rentals are available, but the lines can be long – especially around the holidays). We made the mistake of going on Christmas Eve once… and let’s just say, the crowd wasn’t quite as magical as the lights.

If I’m being honest, though, the lights themselves are underwhelming. There are only a handful of installations, but they’re located behind barriers so you can’t get up close. A few years ago, there was a Holiday Fair in the Square that really added to the vibe but that event no longer runs.

It’s still worth a quick visit if you’re in the area or want to skate in downtown, but if you’re looking for a more immersive light experience, I’d recommend heading just a few blocks south into the Financial District instead. The decorations and holiday displays in that area are surprisingly stunning – and far less crowded.

6. Holiday Lights in Toronto’s Financial District

If you want to see holiday lights without battling crowds or buying tickets, the Financial District is a hidden gem. Right in the heart of downtown, this area is home to some of the most underrated (and elegant) Christmas light displays in Toronto.

Here’s why it’s one of my favourite under-the-radar spots to enjoy the season:

• Brookfield Place – Easily one of the city’s most breathtaking installations, featuring a massive Christmas tree, cascading ceiling lights that look like the Milky Way, and the show-stopping 20-foot sculpture of a snowflake.
• TD Centre – Two soaring Christmas trees bathed in green light, perfectly framed by the surrounding towers.
• Scotia Plaza & Commerce Court West – Beautifully lit with tasteful and modern white lights and a giant Christmas tree.

Bonus tip: Use the PATH! The underground PATH system connects most of these locations, so you can enjoy a cozy walking tour of the best Christmas lights without freezing. It’s perfect for warming up between stops, grabbing a hot chocolate, or navigating easily from Union Station or King Street subway.

This is my go-to when I want a quiet, holiday-lit walk after exploring the bigger displays. It’s peaceful, polished, and full of photo-worthy Christmas lights in downtown Toronto – with none of the chaos.

7. Bloor-Yorkville Christmas Lights: Holiday Magic

Yorkville might be known for upscale shops and fine dining, but it also adds a touch of festive charm during the holidays with its Holiday Magic light display.

The lights here are elegant and well-done, though the display itself is quite small. It’s lovely if you’re already in the area – maybe after dinner or while visiting the Royal Ontario Museum – but I wouldn’t make a special trip just to see the lights.

Still, if you enjoy a quieter, more refined holiday vibe (with the chance to warm up at a nearby café or browse some high-end boutiques), Yorkville makes for a nice seasonal stroll.

8. Eaton Centre Christmas Tree and Holiday Light Show

Right in the heart of downtown – just steps from Nathan Phillips Square – the Toronto Eaton Centre offers more than just holiday shopping. It’s home to Toronto’s tallest indoor Christmas tree, standing a jaw-dropping 114 feet high, surrounded by dazzling lights and festive music.

From mid-November through December, hourly light and snow shows fill the mall with holiday cheer. It’s definitely a hit with kids – mine were amazed watching “snow” fall indoors! The shows are a fun way to break up a shopping trip, and they make for great photo ops.

In 2025, the Hudson’s Bay windows were decorated again for the season – not quite the magical displays I remember from childhood, but still a charming stop, especially with little ones in tow.

9. Christmas Lights and Skating at Harbourfront Winterfest

Set along the lake with the CN Tower towering in the background, Winterfest at Harbourfront Centre is one of the most picturesque (and underrated) holiday light displays in Toronto.

You can wander through the curated Vendor Village, where eight local small businesses offer up perfect holiday gifts, or stop by the Holiday Lounge or NORDIC for a festive drink and a moment to warm up.

Activities rotate throughout the season, but highlights include Skating at The Well, Pet Photos with Santa (yes, humans are welcome too!), a Holiday Family Movie Series, and even outdoor skating performances.

Whether you’re meeting up with friends or enjoying a winter outing with the kids, The Well offers a laid-back but beautifully festive experience – without the chaos of bigger events. It’s a new addition to the Christmas lights Toronto scene, and one I hope sticks around for years to come.

Holiday Hills at STACKT Market brings a modern, urban twist to holiday nostalgia – transforming a full city block into a festive playground right in downtown Toronto.

This reimagined winter wonderland features rotating events and immersive displays, like the Tunnel of Lights and giant holiday inflatables. It’s the kind of place where you can cosy up with seasonal comfort food, sip creative holiday cocktails, and shop for one-of-a-kind gifts from local vendors.

If you love a good holiday drink, this is your spot—there’s even a speakeasy-style martini bar tucked inside for a fun surprise. It’s especially perfect for a festive date night or a relaxed evening out with friends.

13. Inglewood Drive between St. Clair East & Rosedale Heights

Known as “Kringlewood”, Kringlewood is a Toronto tradition. Each year, this stretch of Inglewood Drive transforms into a Santa-filled spectacle, with over 50 giant inflatable Santas lining the lawns. It’s perfect for a festive walk or slow drive – and a guaranteed smile.

14. Scarborough – 67 Stanwell Drive

This house is a must-see for east-end residents. Expect vibrant roofline lights, cascading icicles, glowing reindeer, and a sparkling sleigh. It’s a beautifully warm display that perfectly captures the magic of the season.

15. Benjamin Boake Trail – De Sario Family Festival of Lights

165 Benjamin Boake Trail, North York

For over 25 years, the De Sario family has brought light (and love) to their neighbourhood with more than 50,000 LEDs, inflatables, and festive décor. Looking for one of the best Christmas lights displays near Toronto? The Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls, Ontario is a must-see. This massive, free outdoor event runs from mid-November to early January and features more than 8km of illuminated displays stretching from Queen Victoria Park to Dufferin Islands.

Expect glowing tunnels, whimsical characters, colourfully wrapped trees, and stunning views of the falls lit up for the holidays. There are even nightly fireworks on select dates, making it one of the most memorable winter experiences in Ontario. The Christmas lights in Niagara Falls are well worth the drive.
