Top Reasons to Book Your Stay at the Sheraton Centre Toronto
The Sheraton Centre Hotel in downtown Toronto has recently undergone a major renovation, making it an excellent choice for visitors to the city.
Its central downtown location provides easy access to popular attractions and transportation. While the outside of the hotel may not have the greatest appeal at first glance, the interior has been completely revitalized.
The lobby is beautiful and features many seating areas, sound-proof private booths, a grab-and-go breakfast service, and an intimate bar serving drinks and small bites.
Due to the hotel’s downtown location, there is not a large restaurant on site, but there are hundreds of food options within walking distance of the hotel. Room service is also always an option.
In addition to recent renovations and its ideal location, the Sheraton hotel has a huge indoor-outdoor pool that is open year-round and has one of the best fitness centres I have seen in a hotel in Toronto.
Sheraton Centre Toronto: Location
The hotel’s prime location makes it a very popular choice for visitors to Toronto. This large hotel takes up a whole downtown block and is located on Queen Street East, right across from Nathan Phillips Square and the famous Toronto Sign.
Toronto’s Sightseeing Hop on Hop Off Bus also has a stop right across the street.
Attractions Close to the Sheraton Centre
There are an abundance of restaurants, bars, shopping, and entertainment options within easy walking distance of the hotel. The Ed Mirvish Theatre and the Art Gallery of Ontario are less than a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
For those visiting the city in the winter, Nathan Phillips Square has the best outdoor skating rink in Toronto! The Eaton Centre Shopping Centre is also directly across the street, and the trendy Queen West shopping district is located just a few minutes away by foot.
There are over 300 restaurants located within a short walk of the hotel.
Many Public Transportation Options Close to the Hotel
Access to public transportation, including the subway, is also very convenient. The Queen Subway Station is located beside the hotel, providing easy access to Union Station to the south and Bloor Street to the north.
A ten-minute subway ride will get you to the Roger’s Centre to watch a Blue Jays game or the Scotia Bank Arena to watch a Leaf’s hockey game or Raptor’s basketball game.
Streetcars that run along Queen Street in front of the hotel are currently affected by some ongoing construction, but a short walk can have you on the streetcar and on your way to places like Woodbine Beach or the Canadian National Exhibition.
Getting to the Airport
Access to Toronto Pearson International Airport is also convenient. Of course, taking an Uber or a taxi from the hotel is easy, but another excellent option is to hop on the UpExpress from Union Station.
The UpExpress can get travellers to the airport in 25 minutes without having to worry about Toronto traffic. And with a price tag of just $12.50 CAD, it’s an excellent option for those looking for fast and convenient transportation to the airport.
Billy Bishop Centre Toronto City Airport is also easily accessible from Union Station. There is a free shuttle you can catch at the Royal York Fairmont Hotel that will get you to the airport in about 10 minutes (traffic-dependent).
Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Parking
One challenge with the Sheraton Centre is parking. Only valet parking is available on site, and that can be very expensive.
However, directly across the street from the hotel is a large Green P City of Toronto Parking Lot that is much more reasonably priced.
If you are driving and parking, I highly recommend using a local public lot and walking across the street to the hotel.
Sheraton Centre Toronto Check-in and Lobby Experience
When I arrived at the hotel for my recent conference, I found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. The conference was for approximately 700 people, and I was so surprised to experience a fast and smooth check-in.
Staff were available to help the lines move quickly, and I was able to check-in to my room early even though the hotel was at full capacity. I was given a complimentary room upgrade.
One of the concerts with the Sheraton in the past was the busy elevators and having to sometimes wait a long time for an elevator. With the recent renovations, it appears some of these issues have been resolved (or at least minimized).
For example, my room was on the 43rd floor, and I was able to access express elevators that made it easier to quickly access the higher floors. There were also many elevators available for each of the different hotel towers. I had no issues with the elevators during my recent stay.
Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Rooms
With 1372 rooms available, there are lots of room types and options available, from standard rooms to suites. During my recent stay, I was in a King Standard room on the 43rd floor.
The room was large, with a king-size bed and a desk with a chair. There was also an additional sofa chair with an ottoman in the room with an excellent view of downtown Toronto. I found the bed and pillows to be really comfortable.
The bathroom was large, with a shower/tub combination. There was also an awesome view of Toronto from the room!
One word of caution, however, is that the clock located at Old City Hall chimes every hour, 24 hours a day. While the clock did not personally bother me, light sleepers may be disturbed by the clock bell. I would recommend requesting a south- or west-facing room when you check in if you are a light sleeper.
43rd Floor Club Lounge
On the 43rd floor, you will also find the impressive Club Lounge accessible for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members or those who choose an upgraded package.
With stunning views of Toronto, a hot breakfast buffet, evening appetizers, and all-day non-alcoholic beverages, the Club Lounge is a very nice perk for guests who qualify.
Sheraton Centre Indoor-Outdoor Pool and Fitness Centre
The hotel’s pool is one of the best features of this hotel. This huge indoor-outdoor pool is heated all year, meaning guests can even swim outside in the winter!
Towels are provided, and a lifeguard is on duty during certain times of the year. It is also possible to book reserved seating at the outdoor pool during certain times of the year.
The hotel’s fitness center is one of the best facilities I have seen in a hotel. Located on the third floor beside the pool, the fitness facility is open 24 hours a day, has lots of natural light, and has lots of equipment, including free weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, and more.
