If you want to visit a unique park that oozes character and charm, then Guild Inn and Park is the spot for you! It is one of my favourite places in the city to walk and take photographs. It’s never busy, and it’s unlike any other park in the city.
The Guild is renowned for its collection of public art and architectural fragments. It’s a unique park in Toronto, offering a fascinating glimpse into the city’s architectural history.
This free public park overlooking the picturesque Scarborough Bluffs extends over 36 hectares and is a fascinating journey through Toronto’s history and art.

Also, for photography enthusiasts, the Guild is a real treat. It’s a popular spot for wedding photography and nature shots, and it’s one of the best Toronto Instagram spots, in my opinion.

What is the Guild Inn and Park?
The Guild Inn and Park has a rich history dating back to 1914. It has evolved significantly over the years. Originally a private residence, it transformed into an artists’ community in 1932 under Rosa and Spencer Clark, who supported various artists.
In the 1960s, the Clarks began preserving architectural fragments from demolished Toronto buildings, adding a unique touch to the site. By 1978, the City of Toronto took over the site. After a period of disrepair, the park reopened in 2017.
There are essentially two parts to the park. There are the public park and gardens, and then the original inn has become the private Guild Inn Estate, a venue for weddings and special events.
Things to Do at the Guild Inn and Park
Explore the Gardens, Artwork, and Historic Architecture
The park is home to beautifully landscaped gardens interspersed with over 70 sculptures and architectural pieces from demolished historical Toronto buildings.
These include the façade of the Temple Building, Toronto’s first skyscraper, and the oldest building in Scarborough, built in 1795.
My favourite is the Greek theatre, created using the ornate archways and pillars from the 1913 Bank of Toronto.
Each time I visit, however, I find another interesting and unique artifact to appreciate. Toronto doesn’t always do the best job of preserving it’s history. These architectural pieces give a glimpse into Toronto’s past and some of it’s historical beauty.
Stroll the Walking Trails and Admire the Scenic Views
In addition to the beautiful gardens, you can enjoy a walk along the woodland trails beside Lake Ontario. These trails offer glimpses of the Scarborough Bluffs. The park is also one of the best places to see the fall colours in Toronto.
Photography Opportunities
This location is excellent for photography enthusiasts and Instagrammers. The combination of art, architecture, and natural beauty provides numerous spots for stunning photos.
It’s also a popular spot for wedding photography.
Host Your Wedding at the Guild Inn Estate
At the same time, if you are interested in hosting your wedding ceremony in the public park, you can book a permit through the City of Toronto for up to 100 people for a small fee.
Following the wedding ceremony, the completely modernised wedding venue at the Guild Inn Estate is an excellent choice.
I find it to be one of the nicest wedding venues in Toronto. There is an indoor/outdoor space for wedding receptions, and the park provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photography. There is also lots of parking available for guests.

The Guild Inn and Park is located in the Guildwood neighbourhood of Scarborough. For that reason, it is sometimes referred to as the Guildwood Inn and Park.
Visitors have several transportation options to the park:
By Car
- The Guild Inn and Park and located in the Guildwood neighbourhood near Kingston Road and Scarborough Golf Club Road.
- A large parking lot with free parking is available at the Guild Inn and Park.
By Bus
- The TTC bus route 116 Morningside bus stops along Guildwood Parkway, close to the entrance of the Guild Inn and Park.
By GO Train
- There is also a Guildwood GO Train Station at 4105 Kingston Road. It’s about a 25-minute walk, a short taxi or ride-share journey to the Guild Inn and Park.
I would note, however, that if you are a tourist to Toronto and staying in the downtown area, a visit to this park will take some planning both in terms of transportation and timing. The park is about 20 km from downtown.
Tips for Visiting Guild Inn and Park
Visiting the Guild Inn and Park can be a delightful experience. Here are some tips to make the most of your visit:
- No On-Site Refreshments: There are no refreshment stands or places to buy snacks in the park, so it’s advisable to pack your own snacks and refreshments.
- Public Washrooms Available: While the park lacks certain amenities, it does have public washrooms for visitors’ convenience.
- No Play Areas for Children: Keep in mind that there’s no playground for children, so if visiting with kids, bring along some activities to keep them engaged.
- Guild Park is Pet-Friendly: Dogs on leashes are welcome in the park and along the trails. However, ensure they do not enter the garden areas.
- Do not climb the Bluffs: The Scarborough Bluffs are a highlight of the area but are composed of soft, sandy material and can be unstable. For your safety, do not climb the bluffs. Heavy fines of up to $5000 are imposed for venturing into restricted areas.
