Living in Toronto means I get to see this incredible city from a local’s point of view every day but even as a local, there’s something special about experiencing it through the eyes of a visitor.
I recently stayed at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel for a conference so I have first-hand experience of what to expect at this property. Whether you’re visiting for business, traveling solo, or looking for the best hotel in Toronto for families, this downtown gem is an excellent option.
From sipping morning coffee while overlooking Nathan Phillips Square to unwinding at the heated indoor/outdoor pool, it was the perfect stay in Toronto.

My First Impressions at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel
As someone who knows Toronto well, I sometimes overlook what makes downtown Toronto hotels so special. But stepping into the Sheraton Centre’s bright, airy lobby reminded me exactly why so many visitors choose to stay in the heart of the city.
The hotel recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, and it shows. From the sleek, modern design to the refreshed common areas and stylish touches throughout, everything feels contemporary and welcoming.
The lobby is large with lots of seating and staff to check you in. Just off the lobby you will find an indoor waterfall and a peaceful garden terrace. The Sheraton is also directly connected to Toronto’s PATH system. This allows you to travel throughout the city underground and is ideal in all types of weather including hot summers and cold winters!

Location: Stay In the Heart of Downtown Toronto
If you want to be right in the middle of it all, this is one of the best Toronto downtown accommodations you can pick. The Sheraton Centre is just steps from Nathan Phillips Square, and a quick walk to major attractions like the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Eaton Centre shopping mall, and the Rogers Centre.
Want to explore even more? The hotel is right next to subway and streetcar stops, making it incredibly easy to get around the city. You’ll have fast connections to Union Station (perfect if you’re arriving by train or planning day trips), the Toronto Waterfront, the CN Tower, and even the Toronto Islands. Toronto’s Hop on Hop off Bus also has a stop right outside!
If you’re visiting during the winter, even better! You’ll be steps away from the iconic Nathan Phillips Square skating rink – one of my favourite winter activities in the city.

Getting to the Toronto Airports
Getting to Toronto Pearson International Airport from the Sheraton Centre is simple and convenient. You can always grab an Uber or taxi directly from the hotel, but a great alternative is to hop on the UP Express train from Union Station. The UP Express gets you to Pearson in just 25 minutes, all while skipping Toronto traffic.
For Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, it’s just as easy. Head to Union Station, then catch the free shuttle at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel – it will get you to Billy Bishop in about 10 minutes (traffic permitting).

I stayed in a king standard room. It had expansive city views, including a fantastic vantage point of Nathan Phillips Square and the iconic Toronto sign just below.
Even as a local, it felt special to see the bustling square from above. From free ice skating in the winter to events like Nuit Blance or the Cavalcade of Lights, there’s a lot to see and do at City Hall.
The room was spacious and thoughtfully designed, perfect whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or on business. The bed was comfortable, and there was ample workspace, and a cozy seating area. This large hotel has many room types, so there are rooms for a variety of budgets. It was both comfortable and convenient.

43rd Floor Club Lounge
On the 43rd floor, you will also find the impressive Club Lounge accessible for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members or those who choose an upgraded package.
With stunning views of Toronto, a hot breakfast buffet, evening appetizers, and all-day non-alcoholic beverages, the Club Lounge is a very nice perk for guests who qualify.
Amenities: Pool, Gym, and Relaxation at Sheraton Centre Toronto
For me, one of the stand out features of this hotel is the heated indoor/outdoor rooftop pool. Unlike many other Toronto hotel pools, the Sheraton’s pool is huge and has lots of seating. It’s ideal if you want to be able to cool off after a long day of Toronto sightseeing, or if you are travelling with kids looking to burn off some energy at the pool.
The fitness centre is also one of the best in the city, with its modern equipment and large window. It is one of the largest I have seen in a hotel. It’s another reason this hotel stands out among Toronto conference hotels.

Dining Options at Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel
One common critique of this hotel is its limited on-site dining options. While there is a bar, a café offering grab-and-go breakfast items, and convenient mobile ordering, guests looking for a full-service restaurant may find the choices somewhat limited.
But don’t let that deter you – hotel dining is often expensive, and there are countless nearby restaurants along Queen Street West or in the Entertainment district – perfect for all budgets and dining preferences.

What Could Be Better? Downsides of Sheraton Centre Toronto
While my stay was overwhelmingly positive, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- Elevator delays during peak times: The elevators can get busy, especially when the hotel is hosting conventions. If you’re on a higher floor, be prepared to wait a bit longer.
- Limited on-site dining: While convenient and high quality, the hotel’s dining options are limited and on the expensive side. Luckily, there are plenty of fantastic local restaurants nearby to explore.
- Expensive valet-only parking: The hotel offers valet parking only, and it can be quite pricey. A more affordable alternative is the large Green P underground parking lot across the street, which is easy to access and offers better rates.
- Busy lobby during conferences: As a popular conference centre, the lobby and elevators can get crowded at times. However, the friendly and attentive staff are always available to help with any concerns.
Warning for Light Sleepers: Toronto’s Old City Hall has a clock that chimes every hour, 24 hours a day. While the clock did not personally bother me, some may be disturbed by the clock bell. Requesting a south- or west-facing room at check-in will help with this issue.
